Besides spending time with their alpacas, they hang out with other alpaca owners! Yes, there are many alpaca associations which benefit the alpaca industry. Since our industry is still rather new in the United States, we need strong associations with member involvement to support our development.
There are also regional affiliates of AOBA such as OABA which represents the alpaca owners in Ohio. Of course, these organizations emphasize regional alpaca awareness. AOBA and OABA both publish their own alpaca magazine . The Alpaca Registry, Inc (ARI) was established to maintain accurate bloodline information about the alpaca herd in the United States. They also maintain alpaca names assuring that each alpaca has a unique name. The data in this registry is searchable by individual owners providing a wealth of information. The Alpaca Research Foundation (ARF) is primarily concerned with scientific research pertinent to alpacas. Then, there is the Alpaca Fiber Cooperative of North America (AFCNA) whose goal is to promote the alpaca fiber industry. After all, the end product for alpacas is their fleece! The Alpaca Llama Show Association (ALSA) is an organization that focuses shows for both alpacas and llamas. They have an awesome youth program! Thus, there is plenty to keep alpaca owners and breeders busy! Return to Top of Alpaca Breeders Page
