AOBA
Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association
AOBA is the national organization for the alpaca industry.
This association officially started in the late 1980s with just 87 members and 392 alpacas. It has now grown to over 4,000 members and over 100,000 alpacas!
The main goals of this organization are to promote public awareness of alpacas, and to promote the growth of the alpaca industry. These goals are huge!
They also educate the membership on the care and breeding of alpacas in order to achieve a national herd which has excellent healthy, sound conformation, and superb fleece characteristics. Excellent idea!
In addition, they provide support for member farms regarding education and marketing. We can use all of the help that we can get!
They have recently started a youth association as well to help train the next generation about alpacas. Sierra, my daughter, won Judge's Choice for her
essay about the birth of her first cria
in the youth essay contest at the National Show in Cleveland in 2009. Congratulations, Sierra!
They even have a show system where alpaca owners can show off their alpacas at
alpaca shows
! We love it when our alpacas receive ribbons!
These are a lot of goals!
In order to fulfill these goals, they established twelve committees. Members are encouraged to participate on these committees in order to enhance our alpaca industry.
Furthermore, this association sponsors several websites to keep the public and its members informed and up-to-date.
I highly encourage you to learn more about the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, and to get involved in the alpaca industry!
