Eco-Friendly Alpacas

Alpacas are not only fantastically friendly,
but they are exceedingly eco-friendly, too!

We like to say that alpacas are the ultimate green livestockgood for the environment and good for your wallet.

So, what makes these adorable creatures so environmentally friendly?

Since they have padded feet like dogs and cats, they do not damage the pastures. Hoofed livestock like cows and horses cause considerable harm to the terrain.

Alpacas gently cut the tops of grass rather than pulling the grass out by the roots. Their pastures are sustainable since the grass continues to grow. And you do not need a gasoline-powered lawnmower when you have alpacas!

Alpacas clean up their own pasture by munching on fallen leaves and brush and other vegetation. Just make sure there are no poisonous plants in your pasture!

As pseudoruminants , alpacas have highly efficient digestive systems. Thus, they require less food than other livestock.

Since they are related to the camel, they also require less water than other livestock.

Alpacas can be maintained on less acreage than most other livestock – usually about 5 alpacas per acre.

Since they use community dung piles, parasite loads throughout the pasture and in your alpacas are much less. And it is relatively easy to clean-up after them.

Their manure makes fantastic fertilizer for your organic garden. And this fertilizer is all natural!

Then, there is their fleece ! Wow! This end-product is sustainable since alpacas are shorn every year. And no chemicals are used in the processing of raw fleece into natural fiber.

Alpacas even provide plenty of "green" fleece colors including white, beige, fawns, browns, blacks, rose grays, and silver grays. There is a natural color for everyone!

Yes, alpacas are environmentally friendly!

And we all want to be eco-friendly these days! Right?
