OABA

Ohio Alpaca Breeders Association

OABA is an affiliate of AOBA for Ohio Alpaca Breeders

Ohio has the greatest concentration of alpacas and alpaca farms in the United States. So, it is naturally fitting that we would have a large alpaca association to represent us as well.

Most of the member farms are located in northern Ohio, but southern Ohio has been growing lately as well.

The Ohio Alpaca Breeder Association was formed in 1997 to provide marketing, education, and support to all Ohio alpaca farms regardless of size.

Members are encouraged to participate on committees and to attend meetings, but they are now optional. Here are a few of their committees.

  • AlpacaFest Show Committee
  • Education Committee
  • Fiber Committee
  • Fundraising Committee
  • Government and Livestock Relations Committee
  • Long Range Planning Committee
  • Marketing Committee
  • Membership Committee
  • Public Relations Chairman Committee

Most of the benefits of membership seem to revolve around referrals from their website.

They also sponsor AlpacaFest which is a huge alpaca show in Columbus, Ohio every fall usually during the first weekend in November.

The halter show is a level V show, and the fleece show is a level IV show. Unfortunately, they did not have the fleece show in 2009 due to financial reasons. I hope they bring it back in 2010!

Their newest venture is their alpaca magazine called Ohio Alpaca Life which will debut during spring 2010.

If you would like to visit an Ohio alpaca farm, you are welcome to contact us! We would love to meet you!
